MART GALLERY & GROUPIE MAGAZINE PRESENT:
OTHER WORLDS – A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION BY ANGELO KEHAGIAS
OTHER WORLDS is a collection of portraits from esteemed Australian photographer Angelo Kehagias.
“Listening to music is in essence a form of escapism. As a photographer I believe it is my role to create images that sit alongside the music, facilitating the ‘escape’ into other worlds. It is my role to aide you on your musical journey”
Angelo first burst onto the Australian Music scene with his stunning portraits of the band Mercy Arms. The images from this shoot saw the band adorned in various costumes, set against the backdrop of the vast Australian interior. These images were specifically designed to give the band an other-worldly mystique, a romanticised existence.
“It is this early shoot that set the tone for my entire body of work, and it is this approach that I try to take into every shoot. Starting out in the music industry, you’re always looking to make an impression. I looked at what was considered to be your basic music promo shot, and decided I was going to do things differently. Instead of sticking a flash in the subjects face, and simply taking a headshot, I decided that I wanted my images to contain a narrative of sorts, however basic or complex that may be. I try to approach every shoot conceptually, and I am always sourcing locations, costumes or props that help to bring the story to life”
Angelo has now established himself as the photographer of choice for many of Australia’s most popular musicians, labels and managers. Angelo has also become a firm favorite with online music mag GROUPIE, where his shots regularly adorn the cover.
The exhibition will feature portraits of Washington, Art v Science, Lisa Mitchell, Temper Trap, Ladyhawke, Kate Miller-Heidke, Passenger, Julia Stone, Elizabeth Rose, Deep Sea Arcade, Little Red, Belles Will Ring, Faker, Mercy Arms and many more…
